Why does low-grade lipstick dry, irritate or leave a burning sensation on the lips?

which ingredient is responsible? or is it the excess of one ingredient?

sometimes it even happens with expensive designer lipsticks (especially when left on for too long or used on non moisturized lips) and more so with lip glosses. i find that lip balms (even cheap ones) are the less likely to irritate the lips.

any ideas?

you might be allergic to an ingredient. i can wear $0.99 lipstick and not have a reaction like that. i get the Outlast lipstick, and that's about $8, and no reaction. Why does low-grade lipstick dry, irritate or leave a burning sensation on the lips?
Probably made in China from god knows what. most cosmetics are a risk for that reason.
Because of cheaper ingredients.
if you get *** on your lip the lipstick will dry faster thats problably yur problem
