What causes lips & gums to maintain their pink colour?

People have told me its blood vessels, but im not sure.

Just curious ;DWhat causes lips %26amp; gums to maintain their pink colour?
It has to do with the blood vessels and the layering of the different types of tissue. Gums should be pink. In fact, in dental school, we learned that their exact color should be ';coral pink'; If they are red they are not healthy. (they also are unhealthy if they are puffy, shiny, or bleed easily)What causes lips %26amp; gums to maintain their pink colour?
Lips and gums are made up of skeletal muscles which contain an iron containing protein called ';myoglobin';. myoglobin gives red colour to skeletal muscles, so lips appears red/pink.

Not so sure about gums. thought it will be myoglobin or might be blood vessles.
